About Medicine Creek Solutions : First Nation Health Policy Development

Medicine Creek Solutions (MCS) is a health consulting firm that specializes in research, planning, advisory and negotiation services to assist First Nation, Aboriginal and government organizations in reaching their maximum potential in the health and social service area. The response to MCS has grown exponentially over the past three years and we are driven to respond to these growing demands by producing quality products and services with and on behalf of our clients.

MCS is a First Nation owned and operated consulting firm that was established in September 2006 by Melanie MacKinnon (Red Feather Eagle Woman). Melanie is a Cree member of Misipawistik Cree Nation, a nurse and published author that has worked in numerous clinical, administration, research and policy analyst roles in First Nation, Provincial and Federal health care systems throughout Manitoba. She continues to be grateful to her family, colleagues, mentors and Elders whom have continued to support her career and helped steer her path to help in improving the health of our First Nation and Aboriginal peoples.

Lorraine McLeod, a Cree member of Cross Lake Band of Indians, is a First Nation registered nurse with 26 years of diverse nursing experience in the hospital, community, Tribal Council and regional settings. She has worked directly in First Nations health for 10 years in various nursing capacities at the Tribal Council level; as a Tribal Nursing Officer, Home & Community Care Program Coordinator, and Diabetes Coordinator, to support community health programs and services. Lorraine has worked as a health policy analyst, Manitoba First Nations Blueprint Coordinator and the Intergovernmental Committee on First Nations Health Coordinator within the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Secretariat. These opportunities have involved administration, strategic planning, program development, implementation and evaluation, program and policy analysis, meeting/group facilitation, and networking with First Nations, federal and provincial government departments, and Regional Health Authorities. Lorraine joined Medicine Creek Solutions in March 2009.
